working on taking my days back

8 May 2009

aren’t yours at all
they come and go
like someone else’s days
they come and leave you behind
someone else’s face

and it’s harsher than yours
colder than yours…

art is why i get up in the morning
but my definition ends there
you know, it doesn’t seem fair
that i’m living for something
i can’t even define
there you are right there in the meantime
i don’t want to play for you anymore
show me what you can do
tell me what are you here for?
i want my old friends
i want my old face
i want my old mind
fuck this time and place

i want my old friends. i want my old face. i want my old mind. fuck this time and place.

i’d like to say that i have more in me than old song lyrics, but i can’t promise anything right now

there, I said it. (It’s not like I’m his biggest fan EVA! or anything, but damn, his songs are katchy. and yeah, the k was a typo, but i kept doing it, so it must be right in some manner of speaking)

iTunes nonsense.

I just found a new sorting category in iTunes! If you’re unaware, I’m obsessed with playcount in iTunes. If I’m listening to a song, I can’t skip to the end and I can’t skip the end. Because then the play count for the song will be off. I can skip the song, if I don’t want to listen to it, but if there are like three seconds left in the song that are silent, I MUST LISTEN TO THEM so the count will go up. This probably stemmed from when I was obsessively listening to ALL the music on my computer. I  didn’t want any songs to have a playcount of zero.

I just found out that iTunes also keeps track of how many times you skip a track. “Skip Count” This excites me. I’m not sure what I will do with it, but time will tell.

pop music

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Phillippians 3: 19, ESV

This was the RCL Epistle reading today and the reading from which my priest preached. It was very timely. I don’t watch much TV since my schedule is crazy haywire, but I spend a LOT of time in my car, driving nearly an hour each way to class four days a week. and the ride there I get to listen to NPR’s Morning Edition, which I love. On the way home, though the NPR station plays classical music. So, I flip to top 40, which is my musical weakness.

I like pop music. Which might make me a complete loser. My problem is that since I’ve started covering my head, I tend to notice the lyrics a bit more. I mean, I’ve always been one to notice lyrics, but now they are starting to offend me. I have several songs that as soon as they come on, I yell “NOOOOOOO!” and turn the station as quickly as possible. Any song referencing “lollipops” automatically goes on this list. I Absolutely Refuse to listen to any song with “lolli/lollipop”

So, I think I’m going to cut out top 40, which means all non NPR radio. I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, but this is just too timely. While some songs are appropriate and good, I just can’t take the crap. And anyway, I have enough music on my computer to keep me occupied for uh… forever. As long as SXSW keeps putting out those torrents every year. That way I have complete control over what I listen to.
